The Warrior Willpower Portable Steam Sauna
The Warrior Willpower Home Steam Sauna offers numerous mental and physical health benefits including stress relief, improved sleep, and pain relief, and is versatile for both indoor and outdoor use with a fully customizable experience.
Why I Wanted a Portable Steam Sauna
I’ve raced in many hot locations and every time I get beat up by the hot environment. I needed to acclimate to the heat better during my build up to the race. I’ve been doing heat therapy to better prepare for the really hot races and have been looking for something at my house.
I wanted to try out the Warrior Willpower sauna due to its low price, and steam heat. Many portable sauns offer infrared heat, and those are fine, but the humidity in a steam sauna really prepares you for the brutal conditions that exist out there.
NOTE – Read about the various differences between types of saunas.
Setting Up The Warrior Willpower Steam Sauna
Setting up the steam sauna is as straightforward as erecting a small camping tent. The initial setup is quick, taking approximately 10 minutes, and becomes even faster for subsequent setups, requiring around 5 minutes. You don’t need any tools for assembly or disassembly.
Setting Up The Sauna Steaming Unit
The steaming unit is simple to operate. Basically, you fill it with water and turn it on. It heats the water to a boiling point which produces steam, and this steam is pushed into the sauna. This does create pressure inside the steaming unit, but there is a safety pressure valve built into the lid.
The white “pill box” is where the steam comes out and resides inside the sauna unit during operation. The pill box resembles a very small vegetable steamer and is for putting medicinal herbs and/or essential oils (Eucalyptus, Lavender, Mint, etc) if that’s your thing.
Oh No!
At some point after my initial test, I realized that two of the three tabs that hold the lid onto the steaming unit had broken off. I’m not sure how or when this happened, but it meant that the pressure (and steam) inside the unit would escape out the lid instead of into the hose leading to the sauna. This had to get fixed if I wanted the sauna to work.
Harbor Freight sells some decent clamps for $5.99 each, and I needed two of them to clamp the lid down super tight. This worked perfectly so I was back in business.
First Impressions
The fabric material is good quality and stitched well. The plastic zippers are not cheap and are easy to operate whether inside the unit or outside.
While it’s basically a box, I like the stitched look of the fabric. It gives the fabric a texture and helps keep the heat and moisture inside the unit.
The Warrior Willpower Home Steam Sauna is made to withstand high temperatures. The materials used are non-toxic, BPA-free, free of micro-plastics, and ROHS compliant, reflecting a commitment to health standards and environmental safety.
Designed with simplicity in mind, the Warrior Willpower Sauna aims to provide a tranquil environment for stress relief and relaxation. Its minimalist aesthetic is calming and allows you to focus on the wellness experience. The inclusion of a machine-washable absorbent mat for the floor is a nice touch.
While the Warrior Willpower Home Steam Sauna is adaptable for both indoor and outdoor use, I’d definitely have some cover over it if you’re using it outside. I’d say a garage is a good option. It is not weatherproof.
The Included Chair is Very Small
The chair that comes with the sauna seems to be better fitted to a small child. I replaced it with an extra lawn chair I had available. Bonus – it has a cup holder in it!
Pre-Heat is Required
It takes about 10 minutes exactly for the steam to begin flowing and the sauna to heat up. I like to put it on the warmest setting.
Compact Yet Comfortable
There’s definitely not a ton of extra space here, but enough to be sitting down and crossing your legs. I don’t find it claustrophobic, just cozy.
The compact size and comfortable, space-saving design is actually one of the selling points of this model. It’s ideal for small spaces without seeming cramped.
Is the Warrior Willpower Steam Sauna Safe?
Everything is BPA-free and uses micro-plastics-free materials. Warrior Willpower adheres to ROHS compliance, which minimizes exposure to harmful substances. Their commitment to safety and wellness is certainly reassuring.
Using the Warrior Willpower Steam Sauna
With steam beginning to flow into the insulated tent after about 10 minutes, I jumped in to begin the bake. I specifically wore my Core Body Temperature monitor to see the effects.
To alleviate boredom, I wore headphones and listened to some music. I tried to use my phone but the steam was really intense and made it difficult.
I found that being in the enclosed chamber is relaxing on its own. It separates me from distractions and allows me to focus on my breathing and the music.
Does it Get Hot?
Even though the Warrior Willpower Home Steam Sauna heats up swiftly, it operates at 120°F with nearly 100% humidity, creating effects akin to a 160°F dry sauna due to water’s higher heat capacity. This means that the perceived heat might be higher than the actual internal temperature, which typically heats up to 115°F.
I kept it on the highest setting and within 10 minutes I was sweating profusely and my core temperature was on the rise. I kept an extra towel inside with me so I could keep wiping the sweat off my face.
I truly have never sweated so much in my life. Thirty minutes was perfect for me and quite honestly, I’m not sure I could take much longer.
I would recommend everyone to take it easy at first though. Any sauna gets really warm and if you’re not prepared, it could be dangerous.
This sauna does its job really well. I found it to be the perfect substitute for a gym-quality sauna.
Cleanup
You do need to clean this after each use. It will have a lot of moisture clinging to the walls and there’s probably a large amount of sweat on the floor.
Here’s my process for cleanup:
- The first thing I do is unplug the steaming unit and then give it a few minutes to cool down slightly.
- I open the sauna door to fully air out the unit for a few minutes (typically I might shower during this time)
- I take a dry towel and wipe down each wall and the ceiling
- I dump the remaining water in the steaming unit and dry it out as well.
This entire process takes about 2 minutes of my time.
The Warrior Willpower Home Steam Sauna’s fabric inhibits mold and bacteria buildup, but I don’t like to take chances. Simple airing the unit out and wiping down the interior after use will maintain it better..
Is the Warrior Willpower Steam Sauna Worth It?
For an athlete, I’d say definitely. You’re buying functionality here, not overall beauty. It does exactly what it is supposed to do and for a fairly low price. I like to use a sauna for heat training in the buildup to a marathon and especially the Kona Ironman. This steam sauna will help me acclimate to those warm environments perfectly.
Other sauna options can range in price from approximately $500 to $4,000. Portable sauna tents like the Warrior Willpower Home Steam Sauna effectively recreate the sauna experience in a small space for a much lower price point.
